To buy and sell something so rare and precious, unbiased and precise standards of comparison are necessary. When shopping for a diamond a consumer must, at a minimum, become acquainted with the industry standard 4C's. Please download our diamond guide to get started!

While most online jewelers today are providing some type of 4C's education and credentials, in our opinion, to fully understand and appreciate the true value and pricing of diamonds, we recommend you investigate beyond the basic 4C's and understand the underlying "cut and proportion grading". A diamond's "proportions" can have a tremendous impact on both its beauty and price.

Many jewelers will provide information on a diamond's grade (4C's) and offer a price based on that grade.

And yet, the most common question remains. . .why is there significant price variations between similar diamonds? Please read Beyond the 4C's to better understand this most common question that the basic 4C's cannot answer.

Before you buy, you must do a few key things...

1. Learn about diamonds
2. Set a budget
3. Determine desired shape and the trade-offs between diamond size and quality you are willing to live with
4. Create a list of at least three merchants (compare product knowledge, customer service, & price).
5. Start thinking about the setting you will put your stone in.... this can have a big impact on your budget if you choose a matching diamond semi-mount (or matching wedding band).
